Look, I’m sorry mm’k. I know I know…. It’s been a while. Even this news is old news. I’ve been distracted by life mainly, but also painting. More on that another day.
So, here is the Department of Works – Signs & Signals RMX edition. This did take a while as it involved a bunch of other lovely folk who also have lives, but additionally my conceptual procrastination. However, it ended well. The outcome is as anxiety ridden as the Exquisite Corpse releases.
The challenge was how to keep as much of the work of the other musicians and retain some structure. In the end the work ended as 2 long pieces with chapters within. There is a breakdown for the contributions below.
RELEASE NOTES
You are now presented with the opportunity to hear these. Like the preceding EDCE works, this is a strange journey that has been left very much as the artists presented. It takes a path through dub, noise, poetry performance, glitch, free jazz and musique concrète.
Revisiting the original album we step back into a backrooms half space full of long abandoned number stations, ancient sunken land masses, overly sexualised AI companions and magick workings on interstellar objects.
The longer pieces are bridged by electronica intervals made by Izzyhereyet. Clocking in at around 70 minutes in all, due to limitations on Bandcamp and to reflect the presentation in cassette format, the work is offered in Side A & Side B mix-tape format. Contributing artists are shown in the credits below.
Whilst some more thorough investigation is needed to confirm this, I believe this is the 20th long form piece or project that falls under the Glove of Bones or associated heteronym. The GoB in approaching its 10th year of activity, being conjured into existence over a long weekend visiting Winchester and Stone Henge for a 50th birthday escape. Over that period and with the assistance of many excellent collaborators we have made some surprising, original and above all hugely enjoyable explorations in outsider music.
Special mention must be made of my most frequent collaborator Cousin Silas, who appears wraith like in this part of the project, the Captain of the Submarine; the very Reverend Rob Mellor, and my personal nepo-baby Izzyhereyet, who was a sapling 10yr old with a Djembe when the GoB was kicked into life but now wields trees.
Thank you to all and I hope you enjoy the mix tape. Future GoB workings are under no pressure consideration
Ever onwards and upwards good friends and “Illegitimi Non Carborundum”.
